Merit scholarships and exemptions from supplementary tuition fees

Discover our offers

Objectives
  • To support the internationalisation of vocational training centers.
  • To offer exceptionally talented international students the opportunity to come and undergo vocational training in Québec
  • To enhance a steady offer and wide coverage of vocational training.
Amount and features
  • The annual budget for merit scholarship award is $ 700 000 (making about 30 awards annually), subject to the budgetary allocation of the ministère de l'Éducation du Québec (MEQ).
  • The value ranges from $14 000 to $ 26 600, depending on the duration of the training program.
  • Both the merit scholarship and tuition exception awards are based on excellent performance and results during the study project in Québec.

These are two programs being financed by the Ministère de l’Éducation du Québec (MEQ) and managed by Éducation internationale through its Québec métiers d’avenir service. One single selection process is conducted for the two programs.

For your information, almost 115 applications were submitted by the School Boards for final selection, for the 2022-2023 contest. From those applications, 8 exemptions and 28 merit scholarships were delivered.

Merit Scholarship

Tuition Exemption

INCLUDED

  • Exemption from supplementary tuition fees payable by international students

  • Health insurance coverage provided by Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ)

  •  Bursary award ranging from $14 000 to $ 26 000 depending on the duration of the chosen training program, to cover the student’s living expenses during his or her studies

  • Exemption from supplementary tuition fees payable by international students

NOT INCLUDED

  • Immigration process costs

  • Transport fare to and from Canada

  • Private health insurance required before the commencement of RAMQ coverage

  • Training related expenses (e.g. training materials, uniforms, etc.)

Participate in the contest

Below you will find the instructions for registering for the 2023-2024 scholarship competition.

 

To be eligible, you must:

  • Not be a citizen of France or Canada. Priority will be given to applicants from member countries of the Francophonie (excluding France and its overseas departments and territories - DOM-TOM), and countries of the leading markets of Asia (China, India, Japan) and the Americas (Mexico, Brazil).

  • Not have Canadian citizenship or a Canadian permanent resident status or be in the process of obtaining the permanent residence status under the Canadian immigration laws.

  • Be outside of Canada at the time of submitting your application and up till the announcement of results.

  • Not be less than 18 years of age. There is no maximum age limit;

  • Not have been a beneficiary of a scholarship awards for studies of the same level as or higher than the DEP in Quebec. In addition, being awarded various scholarships within the same academic year is not allowed

  • Declare having the requiredfinancial capacity.

The application process is free


PROCEDURE : Starting from June 6th, 2023

  1. Eligibility : Find out if you are eligible to participate in the process. (see admissibility above)

  2. Choice of training program : Choose your training program and training centre from the proposed list in the inscription (only ONE choice is possible).

  3. Choice of award program : Choose the award program that you are applying for (Merit Scholarship and Exemption OR Merit Scholarship only).

  4. Registration: Open your online account from June 6th, 2023. Your application will not be saved if you do not select the correct option!

   

Prepare your application by ensure that you complete and attach the following documents to your application:

Application form, which includes :

1.Personnal informations;

  • Your motivations, interests and futur projects;
  • Detailed professionnal background;
  • Detail of your scholarships or prices received (maximum 2).

2. A copy of the identification page of your passport;

3. A copy of your birth certificate;

4. A copy of all diplomas that you have obtained, along with a copy of all transcripts*;

5. A copy of awards, honours or distinctions received (maximum 2);

6. A proof of your academic English proficiency results (TOEFL, IELTS, etc.), or a proof of registration for such EXCEPT you have completed a higher education program of not less than 2-year duration in English language.

7. Reference forms completed by different people (maximum 2);

8. Details of your professional background, along with your CV.

Multiple applications will be automatically rejected. We shall not attend to any request for information by email or telephone.

*Please note that you must merge the documents form each academic program into one SINGLE file before uploading.

**Family members and friends cannot act as references

 

WARNING : Any incomplete, illegible or non-compliant application will be rejected. Any application containing false statements or fraudulent documents will be automatically rejected and the candidate will be eliminated from the current and future competitions.

Calendar & FAQ

Timeline for the selection process:

Application period for Quebec school service centres and school boards From April 10th to May 19nd 2023 Deadline for the school boards to indicate their intention to participate and confirm their training programs.
Submission of application/Registration period From June 6th to July 28th 2023 Complete applications must have been submitted online via Éducation internationale’s dedicated platform for scholarships.
Shortlisting From August 14th to September 29th 2023 Applications are examined and shortlisted by each school board.
Evaluation of applications and final selection of recipients From October 9th to November 17th 2023 Received applications are evaluated by the selection committee
Official announcement of results December 2023 Candidates are informed of the resultat at the end of the selection process.
Students’ immigration process Between January and August 2024 Recipients undertake their immigration process and prepare for their arrival.
Arrival of students and commencement of classes From August 2024 Students arrive in Quebec and begin their vocational training program.
