Planning a budget

In order to take vocational training in Québec, you must be able to prove your financial capacity to undertake this venture during your immigration process.

The following is a breakdown of all the anticipated costs, which will help you determine the funds you need to complete your studies in Québec.

Note: Although you may be able to work during your studies in Québec, the salary you earn cannot be taken into account in calculating your financial capacity as part of the immigration process.

School fees

School fees include tuition fees AND related costs (school materials and equipment) and vary between$10,000 and $50,000, depending on the training program chosen.

School fees are set annually by the ministère de l'Éducation du Québec and vary depending on the training program and the vocational training centre chosen. These fees are indicated on the page of each training program, as well as on the search engine.

Please note that French students benefit from an exemption from tuition fees thanks to an agreement between Québec and France. However, they must pay the related costs.

School fees are payable according to the following schedule :

Travel costs

The cost of a plane ticket for a round-trip to Québec can vary between $1,000 and $3,000 per person depending on your point of departure. Depending on the airline you choose, you may need to plan for additional baggage fees of up to $150 per unit. Éducation internationale has entered into an agreement with Air Canada which offers you many advantages. All details will be communicated to you once you have started your registration process.

Insurance

The Québec Immigration Act stipulates that all international students are required to have health and hospitalization insurance and to maintain this insurance for the duration of their study project in Québec. The monthly premium rate can vary from $65 to $80 per person depending on the insurer. It is recommended that people who will immigrate with you also take out health and hospitalization insurance. French people registered full-time in a vocational training centre in Québec benefit from the coverage offered by the Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ) free of charge since October 1, 2017, provided that they are affiliated with the French social security system.

Installation costs and iving expenses (accommodation, food, transport, etc.)

You will need to budget for a minimum of $500 to cover installation costs. These fees include the connection to utilities, the deposit for your first month's rent, the hotel for the first nights in Québec, the cost of purchasing winter clothes, etc.

The table below allows you to estimate the cost of living in Québec based on the number of people who will immigrate with you. It is important to note that these costs are provided for information only and may vary by region and individual lifestyle.

Proving financial capacity

During registration, you will have to demonstrate that you have the financial capacity to realize your study project. You will have to prove with bank documents or other documents that you have enough financial resources to cover :

  • School fees (tuition fees and related costs;
  • Health and hospitalization insurance fees for you and every family member who accompanies you, if applicable;
  • Transportation fees (round-trip) for you and every family member who accompanies you, if applicable;
  • Installation costs;
  • Living expenses.
  • Attention : Although you will be allowed to work during your studies in Québec, the salary you will receive cannot be taken into account when calculating your financial capacity for your immigration procedures. During your immigration procedures, you will also have to prove your financial capacity according to the documents that will be requested.
