Applying for a study permit
After obtaining a CAQ for studies, you need to apply online for a study permit from Citizenship and Immigration Canada (Citoyenneté et Immigration Canada (CIC)). This study permit should give you the right to complete a traineeship in an enterprise during your studies (co-op student work permit), to work part-time off campus (while completing your full-time studies) and to work full-time during school holidays:
You can apply online for a study permit directly from CIC. A fee of 150 $ will be charged by CIC. The application for a co-op student work permit is usually automatically carried out during the application for a study permit. You only have to mention in the study permits application form that work is a key component of your studies
Important : when applying for a study permit, you must not identify Éducation Internationale in the Autorisation de représentation dans vos démarches. In fact, doing so could slow down the study permit request process since the Ministry's response will not be directly forwarded to you.
Additional information is available on the CIC website :
Expect to wait roughly 3 months to obtain your study permit. Take advantage of that time to prepare your arrival in Quebec. The My place in Quebec website offers practical information to facilitate your integration into Quebec society.
After obtaining your study permit, you must notify Éducation internationale that you have obtained it so that we can inform the educational institution admitting you and so that your application isn't considered void.
For international students other than French citizens: Your tuition fees must be paid no later than two months before the start of your studies. Otherwise, you will be deemed to have abandoned your application (see the terms and conditions of payment).
IMPORTANT : you must notify Éducation internationale 3 weeks before arriving in Quebec so that we can inform your admitting educational institution of your exact date of arrival. This will allow them to prepare your reception and your integration. All pupils or students who do not notify Éducation internationale of their date of arrival at least three weeks before the start of their program of study will be deemed to have cancelled their application.
